The various states of build The project started on 16th July 2004 with the collection of a pair of Unimog 404 axles from Germany - that was some 25 hour round trip I can tell you. The other main milestone was collecting and driving home the engine/gearbox donor Range Rover from Glasgow - I live in the South of England, another marathon trip !! No point making things easy for yourself. This is pretty much a solo effort, but thanks go to Mark McFarlane for his sheet metalwork and specialist welding skills, and Alex Brown my co-driver, navigating across Europe on the axle trip and for beasting the engine and gearbox in. Also to Jez and Vince helping out where my skills finish. Inspiration for the project is multi-faceted. http://www.pirate4x4.com/ has made this project possible, Sam - owner of the Australian MogRover proved to me, the joys of the best of Land Rover and Unimog hybrids. The contributors to the LR4x4.com for answering all my inane questions, and also to people of eBay for funding the project by buying all my junk and providing an excellent source of parts. I must admit to being an advocate of pushing the envelope of UK 4x4'ing. Despite inventing the Land Rover in the same era as the Yanks invented the Jeep, we are miles being in technology and implementation, the same also holds true for Scandinavia and Australia. So this is my contribution to re-addressing the balance.
