Progress was slow due to a Christmas Holiday, a new job and a cold snap,
still spring is here now, so let the welding commence

Well I got 44's !! I was going to stick with 40's but what
the hell.
235/70x16 on the left
35.10.50x16 Simex on the Ibex |
 |
30-50mm of tread depending where you measure it. 12x20's
not 12R20's which are smaller !!
(Yes I know the Ibex has an oil leak - only cooler pipes) |
 |
I've got three more. Didn't bother with a spare, a trashed
tyre is game over. I expect the tyres alone to weigh 50kgs+ !! |
 |
and finally compare to the original 10.50R20 Michelin XCL's
People laughed at me when I said the 37" tall Michelins were my space-savers
!! |

Getting the driving position sorted has been very laborious,
because I had absolutely nothing to work from. I put the pedal box where
it fitted and worked back from there.
Seat are mounted as tight as possible over the transfer box.
Steering column has been mocked into place to, to give what seems like a
very good driving position.
The B-pillar of the roll-cage has been mocked-up out of 40mm waste pipe,
much easier to experiment with than roll cage tube. |
 |
16 gallon fuel cell in place with twin fuel pumps for
redundancy |
 |
I didn't have the wheelbase (stock 100") for the tandem
seating position. I might alter the B-pillar so that it doesn't taper in
quite as much, I need to see what clearance I've got with a helmet on. |
 |
Most services on the engine plumbed up. Should keep the muck
out of the engine. Airflow meter mounted on a 90 degree elbow eliminates
the need for a snorkel. |
 |
Engine oil cooler again mocked up, |
 |
Radiator needs to be moved up and back over the bell-housing
as its too close to the seats at the moment. I've still got to get an
electric fan and possibly some ducting in there yet !! |
 |
Battery "Box" in the passenger footwell in an attempt to
keep the weight low and forward. |
Next.....
Time to start bending up the roll-cage.
