Saturday 12 September 2009, at King George V Playing Fields, Tolpits Lane, Watford - Won by 137 runs         (Ref. 200926)

Debuts: Jeffrey Jansen, Pankaj Patel

On a warm day in Watford, Wealdstone Corinthians wrapped up their 15th win of the season to equal their post-war record of victories, though they were helped by Old Eastcotians hitting the self-destruct button in both innings. They dropped a number of catches and were involved in some soft dismissals that saw them collapse to 36-7, and eventually lose with 7 overs to spare. For the visitors the pleasing thing was that every member of the team made a significant contribution. Following another good start from the opening pair the only wobble came when four wickets fell within 13 balls, including three with the score on 92. A cameo from Wakeel Shah and an exciting debut innings from Jeffrey Jansen, who fell just short of a personal 50 but featured in vital partnerships of 54 with Bob Hyacinth and 39 with Akshay Samarth, brought Corinthians their highest ever score in 26 matches with Old Eastcotians. A great catch from Chris Brown at square leg set the tone of the home side's reply early on, and skipper Andy Naylor continued to feel he had the right fielders in the right places when two run out chances and four more catches were taken. The pick of the bowlers was Martin Beasley, whose three cheap wickets took him to the top of the Corinthians bowling averages. Could it be his year for the trophy that he last won 20 years ago?

Corinthians 241-8 dec (36 overs), Raj Meswani 47 (54 balls), J Jansen 46 (36 balls), A Samarth 33* (30 balls), W Shah 28 (12 balls), S Tall 4-41
