Saturday 19 September 2009, at Cavendish Sports Ground, Field End Road, Eastcote - Drawn         (Ref. 200928)

On a warm day the curtain closed on Corinthians cricket at Cavendish for the season with another high-scoring and extremely convivial match against new opposition Ivanhoe, whose 9 players did well to achieve a draw. Steve Brown chose to bat first on a wicket on the far side of the square, and a short boundary helped compensate for some indifferent bounce. Cavendish really has been a batsman's paradise this season, with Dennis Barrett's record run tally of 257, that had stood since 1987, broken by three batsmen who each topped 300. They were involved in three 50 partnerships that helped Corinthians build their 5th highest total ever in 235 matches on the ground, including the 5th highest individual score from John Wakeling, whose splendid 85 deservedly took him to the new Cavendish record of 360 runs in only 7 innings. Andy Naylor (338) and Raj Meswani (302), who hit his first 50 of the season, gave the side another good start, and Wakeling was well supported by Dino Patel and Malcolm Horwill. Ivanhoe also began well, and although the "Old Firm" of Morley and Cundy took their collective Cavendish wicket tally to 450 and towards 1,400 overall, the match petered out into a draw. No bowler could dislodge the opener Collins, though remarkably three times his stumps were hit without the bail dropping, and Corinthians were left three wickets short of earning a record 7th home win of the season.

Corinthians 208-5 dec (44.5 overs), John Wakeling 85 (95 balls), Raj Meswani 56 (64 balls), Dino Patel 23 (42 balls), R Parnell 3-30
