Sunday 14 August 2011, at Birkbeck College, Birkbeck Avenue, Greenford - Lost by 9 wickets (Ref. 201119)
Debuts: Anand Panchal, Kayur Patel, Dave Smith
A Wealdstone Corinthians team deprived of nine regulars put up a reasonable fight against Ruislip Victoria before succumbing to a 9-wicket defeat in a 40 overs match. The visitors reached 55-1 after 11 overs with John Wakeling going well, before having to rebuild after losing four wickets in 6 overs. Then two in consecutive balls left them 96-7 in the 23rd over, before Ankit and Kayur Patel both played an effective mix of blocking and hitting to reach 30 apiece. Ankit was dismissed LBW playing a horrible reverse sweep across the line to a straight ball, whilst top scorer Kayur was caught at long on. Despite only scoring 4 Chris Clark did well to hold an end up to see 46 runs added, before being last out with the score on a respectable 171 and only 11 deliveries unused. In the home side's reply Mick Walker, who had only played once since the demise of Haste Hill, was their only loss after scoring a fluent 35. The other opener, Tony Buckley, enjoyed his day off from the captaincy to see his side home. The only real chance he gave was an awkward catch to debutant Dave Smith at short third man, whilst a couple of other half chances went begging. 'Bill' Bailey rode his luck early on, before dominating a stand of 93 and ending in jug avoidance territory when winning the match with a huge 6 that took him to 49 not out.
