Pulpit

This Pulpit was given the St. Mary's Church (now Chelmsford Cathederal) in 1873 by the Rt. Hon. W. Hanbury of Ingatestone in memory of his wife (Ismena Tindal Gepp).

It is made from "Bardillo" marble. The panels are sculptured in Irish Green marble and from left to right depict:

The Annunciation
The Meeting of Jacob and Rachel
The Death of Rachel
The Burial of Rachel
The Ascension

It originally stood inside the Chancel and was moved to a more prominent position in 1884 unti its final removal in the 1980s when the Cathederal was refurbished and modernised.
