Mossley
Mossley Bowling Club (Ladies Section)was formed in 1960 but owing to the small membership there was no competitive bowling for some years. Friendly matches took place against Clarendon,Cavehill & Larne to name but a few. In 1966 members of Carrickfergus,Jordanstown and Glengormley were invited to our Opening Day.
In 1968 the Club joined the Private Green's League. Our official opening took place on 20th April and was attended by the first President of the N.I.W.P.G.L. Mrs. D.Caughey.
Club Honours
Our member Mrs. Florrie McIlwaine was President in 1974 and 1978.
She was elected for Vice President of the N.I.W.P.G.L. in 1982 and became President in 1983.
In 1989 a rink from the club won the Private Green's cup and went on to Dublin to play in the I.W.B.A.Championships and were runners-up.
In the same year Mrs.Norma Hunter won the Singles in the N.I.W.P.G.L. and was runner-up in Dublin.
In 1992 honours again for Florrie McIlwaine when she became President of I.W.B.A.
Our first Honorary Member was Mrs.Greta Kayes in 1993 and since then a few other members have been added,namely Mrs.Nette Stevenson,Mrs.Madge Roberts and of course Mrs.Florrie McIlwaine.
We won the Stylux Cup on two occassions in 1995 and 2000.
We have the privilege to play any afternoon or evening on our green along with the men unless a match is being played midweek or on Saturdays.We also enjoy charity days and the opening and closing of the green with the Men's Section.
