| Rally Week For the uninitiated, a quick look at the Mull scenery (Tobermory, right) and marshalling points (below, left) might tempt you to venture up to the island next year, at least as a marshal or a spectator, if you don't fancy competing on these hairy roads! |

The allotted time for this cliff-edge stage (below)
was 7 minutes at night! Understandably, number of crews arrived on the island several days before the
event, to "recce" the tortuous bends of the stages in advance.

Friday 15th October
The rally itself commenced on the evening of Friday 15th October, with the "Millennium
Stage" around Tobermory town, beginning on the Main Street near the harbour. There were
few casualties here, except for one crew whose start-up revving could be heard all round
the upper town. They managed all of 200 yards along the sea front before going KAPUT by
the clock tower and bowing out from the Tour of Mull 1999. Meanwhile, the other cars
continued round the back of the island, arriving back at Tobermory around 2.00 a.m. on
Saturday.
