BRB in Castleton - June 2004

Finally found a day-off which coincided with a free day with my mate Paul - so it was up at 5.30 for a spin up to Castleton. We had a couple of jobs to do. This is the first one - putting some strength back into the scuttle area - scuttle shake had become noticeable on many of UK's neglected main roads, aggravated by the car's competition-oriented suspension and the removal of some strength by shortening the heater-tray. Anyway - enough of all that - here's Paul about to get the Magic MiG out once again…

Whilst Paul was trying to set light to BRB again, I was engaged on a few tidying up jobs under the bonnet (and putting out the odd flame…) … which we'd taken off for spraying; here's a view of the engine from the 'other end':

Spraying the bonnet didn't take too long, since we'd decided to leave the ally with all its imperfections as there was no point in trying to fill/skim for perfection. That reminds me, I bought the bonnet in late summer 2001; so it only took 3 years to get round to spraying it, hardly a record for me. Here's the car pictured back in the home garage next day:

I also popped some primer onto the scuttle, prior to spraying black and popping the trim back for that 'standard look' - oh, and I can report much less scuttle movement, even on the roads in Derbyshire and locally here in Worcesteshire…

D'ja know - Lesley keeps asking when I'm going to replace the tatty seats and trim … you just can't explain that it's mechanical perfection(!) first…
