Comp Pics 2003

Here are some pics from this year - so far. I'll be adding more, as the camera is unloaded and the mood takes. As usual, I will focus on quality to bring you the true flavour of the MGCC speed champ ...

Prescott June 28/29:

First we have Penelope Pitstop giving the single-seater boys a demonstration of fine-tuning the aerodynamics of the MG Compact Special. The extra 1/2 degree of flap achieved through a well-targetted lean on the tailgate ensured Penny's back end stayed planted on his next run up the hill. For those of you who've spotted the 60s time on the board - this was not during Piglet's run; Jim is just off the pic to the left. I managed to get in to the 55s bracket, but Tam (220) did 54s; there'll always be next year … in the 53s. Another splendid weekend at one of my favourite venues.

Compare the untidy line of tatty Italians above with the immaculately prepared and positioned classic British machines below, gracing the top paddock with a splendid range of individually coloured coachwork and bringing a much-needed touch of class and prestige to the meeting.

Silverstone June 22:

Barren, inhospitable, parched, unremitting desolation, windswept, bleak in every direction as far as the eye can see, with very few signs of life … yes we're at Silverstone again. Doug, the creator of the Tam-KMidget, is giving its owner and star-driver (that's 2 people, Tam and James) a pep-talk before they head into the dreary grey of Hangar; BRB is along to stretch her legs at her first event of the season; a rare (and quick) MG1300; and piglet, the mount of Jim Garvey (if you can call a piglet 'a mount' outside of Lincolnshire, that is).

Curborough Aug 3:

Cracking hot and very enjoyable day out at Curborough … maybe too hot for many, since several fastest times set during practice away form the heat of the mid-day … anyway, a shot of the paddock showing (l-r) Richard Sand's 1310 (66.52), Steve Naish's m'cyle engined Midget (68.43), BRB (70.99) and Piglet (68.02). That's Russ' KMidget hidden in the background (up for a non competitive day). DC's Midget (71.10) was parked on the loser's side of the paddock.

Eelmore Sep 14:

Upset at Eelmore! Jim kindly loaned Piglet to Tam, to replace CUJ after James had experienced a slight off in it the day before at Wiscombe Park. What a gent! And what a gent too, for going slow enough to allow Tam to beat him. Either that, or Tam's a monster driver (of other peoples' cars). We may never know, if Jim's not so free with a Piglet loan in Tam's direction for the rest of the season. Anyway, enough words, you want pics:

You can see Tam at speed in Piglet (above) in contrast to Jim (below), who's being overtaken by a marshall walking (it must be admitted) at quite a brisk pace:
