Given his progress it seemed appropriate to arrange Michael Woolley's first peal. As his home tower of Oxton is a 6 the length would be 5040 so it also seemed to be a good idea to arrange it on his 5040th day. (5040 days is 13 years and about 9.5 months). Fortunately as he was born on a Saturday this day would also be a Saturday and hence not a school day.

Michael was given a choice of what to ring and decided to play safe with Plain Bob Minor. His father, Robin, played doubly safe by asking Andrew Mills to conduct.

The peal as shown on Campanophile (opens in new window) was duly scored with Andrew commenting that Michael rung very well with only minor trips and no panics whilst Michael explained that it was his hands hurting that gave rise to the occasional error.

As all the band were members of the Society of Sherwood Youths it was agreed that the Society should be accredited with the peal in this 200th year of the anniversary of the death of William Doubleday Crofts.

In scoring the peal Michael almost certainly becomes the youngest member to ring a peal for the Society, an honour probably previously held by conductor Andrew.

The peal is No 243 for ths Society as per list below.
