It provides an organization for people with an interest in aviation to attend regular meetings, with a range of activities/speakers, and to have the opportunity to visit aviation establishments both military and civil.
Meetings are normally held monthly in the Mount Batten Hall at RAF St Mawgan, Newquay,
by kind permission of the Station Commander. Regular visits include units at RAF St Mawgan
and RNAS Culdrose, and there is a monthly newsletter.
Members come from all walks of life, and interests cover just about every aspect of aviation. There are aircrew, ex-aircrew, aircraft recognition experts, historians and writers, aircraft modellers, photographers, and aviation archaeologists.
A small group of dedicated members has been privileged to work on the restoration of
Avro Shackleton WL795, which has been converted from AEW2 variant back to the MR2 version and
is now St Mawgan's "gate guard". The project is ongoing, with the care and maintenance of
the aircraft usually taking place on Sunday mornings - more volunteers urgently required!
Prospective members have the opportunity to further their knowledge of aviation, and to make a contribution to the work of the Society. All are welcome and membership is open to persons aged 15 and over. The current annual membership subscription is £7.00, together with a joining fee of £1.00. For more details please contact the Society's Secretary -
