Schnauzer Shop Maisie Zeta Kaska

Hello, my name is Kaska and I am the only boy in the family, I was born on Saturday 5th August 2000. My mum was called Match and she's Maisie's sister.

I first met my new owners when I was only 3 weeks old - although at that stage they weren't supposed to have chosen because I may not have been the most handsome, but I think I was so cute they couldn't resist me. From a very early age I had my photo taken and so there are lots of puppy pictures of me and my brothers & sister.

I came here to live when I was exactly 7 weeks old and soon made myself at home, exploring the garden and meeting fellow residents the living room and the kitchen , and discovering all the new toys. Toys are my absolute favourite thing especially soft toys and I have hundreds of them. But at least I've never damaged anything else in the house. I have lots of baby soft toys, doggy chews & bones and I really like playing with small plastic flowerpots.

Because I was going to be shown I had to be socialised and was carried out & about until I'd had my injections at 12 weeks when I went to puppy socialisation class and  ringcraft class.

My show debut was at Ashington, not far from here, in February 2001 at a local open show.  We seemed to have to take a lot of things with us and it was funny watching them trying to work out how to carry all our things; me, my crate, the grooming table, grooming bag, refreshments, and folding chairs into the hall and finding a suitable place to assemble everything, relatively close to the ring. We met other some other schnauzer exhibitors who had been showing for 30 years so we felt a bit new! But they were very nice and I wanted to play with the other dogs in the ring. I won some rosettes and got some rewards and so went home happy.

I didn't get to go to many more shows after that for quite some time because that week the "foot and mouth" outbreak struck Britain and although of course it does not affect dogs, most dog shows were cancelled.

Now I am 3 I have been to lots of shows and even to Crufts twice which is the biggest in the world I think. I can't imagine anything bigger. I really enjoyed going this year. We stayed in an hotel at Birmingham Airport which had automatic doors and a lift. I really got good at knowing just where to stand so that the doors would open. I got some new toys there too!

I did my Good Citizen Dog bronze test at Scottish Kennel Club show last August and so we were all excited to find out that this year the Kennel Club put on a new class at Crufts within the breed classes for those of us who had passed the GCD test. Guess what I won and got a lovely Red Rosette (courtesy of Barry Day) and afterwards I got a brilliant toy lobster that makes many noises!

My dad is called Joker and I met him for the first time in November, I'm supposed to be very like him - I'm very laid back about things and I like to take a toy, or best of all a sock out into the garden with me. Here he is sniffing my ear.

I have quite a few friends. I also have a girl friend, Millie who lives in Edinburgh and who writes to me. She is Zeta's cousin. I love it when we meet up. She's very good at the treat on the end of the nose trick that I can't do at all! Her sister is Bramble and she's alright but I think she'd rather we didn't visit. Bramble used to be Maisie's pen friend but then they met and hated each other.

At the training class there is my oldest friend Krista who lives near here. She's a black mini schnauzer and lives with Heidi and Chloe who are Salt & Pepper like me.

I also love the cats, especially Lace. When I was little, the cats were just the right size to play with me and though I now love to play tugging and chasing games with Maisie & Zeta I'm still great friends with Satin & Lace.
