Welcome to the Reiki page!
Here is a page for quiet and contemplation and also for information
about this gentle but powerful system of healing. Reiki draws on the energy that
surrounds us, an energy that can be transmitted through those attuned to it for
relieving stress and strengthening the immune system to fight illness. Even if
you are not unwell, Reiki can enhance your quality of life and increase feelings
of relaxation and peace.
Most healers use life force
energy but to use Reiki you must be attuned by a Master - this is often a very
healing process in itself for the recipient. I felt much more energised and
alive after my Reiki attunements - more aware of my environment as well as
beginning what has been a slow but steady spiritual growth, within me.
Reiki can make you more aware of the links that connect
us to all other lives on this planet - animal, birds and plants as well as to
the fabric of the earth itself. The Native American Indian Lakota people summed
this up in the saying mitakuye oyasin which can be translated as we
are all related.
Reiki can help you become more at peace with yourself
and others around you - this can be understood by thinking of the Reiki ideals -
as presented by Hawayo Takata, these are:
Just for today, I will let go of anger.
Just for today, I will
let go of worry.
Just for today, I will
give thanks for my many blessings.
Just for today, I will work honestly.
Just for today, I will be kind to my neighbour
and every living thing.
Just contemplating these in your mind - or heart -
every day can bring you calm and contentment.
Even after my first attunement, I
was able to use Reiki energy to help our little schnauzer, Maisie, when she was
recovering from an injury to her leg - she lay very still beside me and let me
lay my hands on the bandaged leg for over 15 minutes - a long time for a
restless little dog like her! Her leg healed beautifully and she has no sign of
the wound now.
It has been said that animals are drawn to those attuned to Reiki - I don't
know if that is true but here, at home, I can often be found sitting with Maisie
and Zeta on my lap and Satin and Lace, the kittens, on top of the dogs, all
asleep. It sounds uncomfortable!...but I can feel very much at peace and calm
with the animals near me like that.

Reiki is thought to have originated in Tibet, many thousands of years ago but
was rediscovered in the early years of this century by a Japanese Buddhist, Dr
Usui. The system of Reiki which he went on to devise was later adapted and
taught in the West by Hawayo Takata. From those she initiated, many different
styles of secular Reiki have developed in the West. There are also however Reiki
Masters whose lineage more closely follows the Buddhist teachings as is the case
with the Reiki I have studied. This lineage traces a path from Mikao Usui
through Chujiro Hayashi (who initiated Hawayo Takata), Sensei Takeuchi, Seiji
Takamori and Ranga Premaratna to Gordon and Dorothy Bell, my Reiki
Masters.

Gordon and Dorothy Bell also live in Newcastle. If you would like to know more about their training
courses, check out their web site here.
