I am a painter of long
experience, widely exhibited in the UK, especially London, and in New York,
Florida, Paris and Rotterdam. My work is collected by many long standing
clients around the world. My style could best be described in the main, as
latter-day expressionism executed in oils or acrylics with themes derived
from the here and now, - the ordinary everyday life going on around me
filtered through the lens of a cheerful and optimistic outlook. I am a happy
person and produce happy work. The Devon countryside which surrounds me, the
nearby moors, my home and garden, friends and family all have a part to play
on my canvasses. I find colour invigorating and the use of it effectively
very challenging, which gives me endless hours of concentrated work. We
associate colour with many things in our lives and the world would be a sad
place indeed without it. My aim is to offer the viewer an antidote to the
daily onslaught of dismal news. Life is both good and bad and I want to
celebrate, and reflect, the good.
Born into a family of talented
artists in 1934 in London I have had an ongoing involvement with the visual
arts since childhood. A deep curiosity about place and lifestyle has led me
to extensive travelling and a widely varied life. This is made evident in
the use of colour and mark and clear expression of optimism which is obvious
in the happy and cheerful mood of most of my work. During all my years of
painting I have also been mother, chef, teacher, business woman, gardener
and sailor by turns. With my husband of 50 years I have voyaged around
Mediterranean Europe and Far East by ocean going yacht for many years. I am
now settled into my new home and studio in Devon, where I would like to
welcome a constant stream of visitors. You can join in by browsing round
