My new studio, built at the
begining of this year, is the best I have ever had. It has an external
staircase for access, roof lights and a wonderful view across the open
rolling countryside of Devon. It is large enough to accommodate 20 people
for the exciting programme of creative craft workshops workshops starting in
the spring, and also spacious enough to allow me to hang my work to
advantage during the Open Studio events that I will be taking part in. With
central heating, its own toilet facility, hot and cold running water and
comfortable chairs I am now able to offer visitors and students every
comfort whenever they appear.

There are good storage racks
for the paintings, which are usually bursting with canvasses, in various
stages of completion, and a plan chest crammed with all kinds of paper,
card, drawings and scraps. All the rest of the paraphenalia of an artist’s
working life, including the radio, finds a home in the roomy cupboards. Lots
to see, and rummage through, if you make a visit. |
| I use mainly oil and/or acylics
for painting but also keep a good collection of other materials for
printing, collage, felt making and general experimenting. I especially enjoy
the freedom of speedy working which the qualities of acrylic paints allow.
Artist’s books are a new interest which lend themselves to plenty of
invention, experiment and imagination.
