FadH Software - What MVS software should be like

PDSFLIST - Release Notes, Version 4.0      (Dated 19/08/99).

Version 4.0 of PDSFLIST is now available.

New features

Generic Filtered List (GFL) support. This significantly improves the ability to search and list datasets by any supported dataset naming pattern. Groups of datasets can be specified by high level qualifier, partial level qualifier etc.

Specific DDNAME support. Any allocated DDNAME can now be searched by explicit name (DD=). Moreover, 'virtual' system DDNAMEs of APFLIST and LINKLST are also supported.

Both GFL and Specific DDNAME requests can be specified with existing fully qualified datasets. For example, you could set the pdslist variable to,

"SYS1.USER.LINKLIB   PROD.R60.*    DD=LINKLST"

The Dataset Information screen (subcommand I) can now be accessed directly, using a new variable DSNINFO. You can specify if you wish the standard screen display or specific details (allocations, volumes or catalog).

Maintenance changes

The version details display will now show release levels of both OS/390 and DFSMS/MVS.

A new Dynamic Trap Facility is available for obtaining dumps.

Changes integrated from 3.7

The following changes, included in 3.7, are now fully integrated.

The Dataset Information screen now includes the ability to display both volume and allocation details.

The "use this line DSN" function (specified via the > operand) is now available for all subcommand functions.

When using the Locate/Find subcommand, failure to locate a member will now result in a ¬Found error message in the command area.

Software requirements

The Generic Filtered List support and the Catalog Details display function both require the Catalog Search Interface to be available. The Catalog Search Interface is standard in DFSMS/MVS 1.4 and above.
