Come along you are sure to enjoy yourselves :-)

Nice to see a member enjoying themselves, Roy Barnes caught in the act of cutting the strip, well done Roy.

Now for a couple of shots of our Chairman's latest toy, yes it's Andy Sayle's YT Edge 540  powered by a whopping great Axi 5330/18 outrunner, Castle Creations 85HV ESC, 10s 5000mAh Lipos and Spektrum Rx/servos.  All up weight is around 12.5lb.  The prop is an 18x10" and it is pulling around 60A for approximately 2.2kW (3 horse power!) at full throttle. Apparently Andy was originally going to power it with IC but succumbed to his addiction and went electric. Nice one Andy

John Bowman Wins RCM&E Picture Gallery of the Month for March

John seen hard at work left has won the above award for his photo gallery on the RCM&E website, his prize is winging it's way to him as I type this, well done John. His interest in photography goes back many years way before digital came on the scene and John has always produced excellent photos which have brought enjoyment to all who view them. The photo of John was submitted by Richard Thomas our treasurer and a Larger version can be seen further down this page.  B.C.

hopefully the event will be re-scheduled, watch this space

Sadly as you can see above the event was cancelled but a few hardy locals did turn up for an impromptu cold and blustery fly and here's a few photos to record the fact, farthest travelled award goes to Arwel from Anglesey

Your Club Newsletter

If you are a member and online the Rhyl & D.M.F.C. newsletter(Flights Over Clwyd) is now available via email, so if you fancy saving the club the price of print postage and paper and in the process do your bit for the planet, then let a committee member know.

News

In the first Newsletter of 2008 mention was made of a "No Fly" lunch break between 1 and 2pm, just to clarify, these lunch breaks only apply to  Bank Holidays and the Sunday of any Bank Holiday weekend so as an example at Easter there will be lunch breaks on the Good Friday Easter Sunday and the Bank Holiday Monday.

The strip has had it's first mowing of the new season today 13/2/08 and is now in good shape Mark Barnes has had a struggle with it this winter as there have been no sheep present to keep the grass down in the winter when it's nigh on impossible to get on with the mower. Well done Mark.

Tim Mackey's latest project having it's first mock-up on the garage floor. It's a BAE Hawk in the famous Red Arrows scheme and uses electric ducted fan as it's propulsion, I look forward to seeing it fly in the not too distant future.

This is the latest completed project from Tim's busy building board, a small scale Sopwith triplane. Scratch built in
depron from a free Cyril Carr plan in RCME.
Home wound outrunner motor, model AUW 7 oz. Nice one Tim

"The Photographer being photographed". This delightful photo was sent to me by Richard Thomas our club treasurer whose model

this excellent large scale Stuka is. The fantastic thing for me is that Richard's shot has caught our recently retired Chairman

John Bowman hard at work with his camera something he's been doing for years giving delight to friends and acquaintances in many walks

of life your's truly included. Rumour has it that Richard had to fly John and the Stuka out to this exotic beach location somewhere in

North Africa for the shoot. B.C.

Just a few lines to describe the club, its based on the area surrounding Rhyl on the North Wales coast, the flying field is just outside Rhyl and a location map can be found lower down this page. Main interests are radio control sport with a large variety of models of all types, power, gliders& tugs, electric, a small amount of control line and rumor has it someone has just invested in a jet (turbine), watch this space. Visitors are welcome to fly with prior arrangement but they must have proof of BMFA insurance before flying.

The Club has an excellent ongoing relationship with the farmer from whose field we fly, and to that end any safety or noise issues are vigorously pursued. The club being BMFA affiliated actively promotes the associations attainment schemes i.e. the "A" and "B" tests for both fixed wing and helicopters (N.B.at this moment in time we are not taking on any trainee helicopter pilots), and to this end we have four BMFA examiners and several instructors. We are also well equipped with a frequency monitor, frequency checker and also a noise meter. We use a peg board as our main safety system, this being of the "peg off" type. If you're in the area and fancy finding out what the hobbies all about pay us a visit at the field and find out.

Where Are We?

The field is on the north side of the road  opposite the arrow.

The above map or I should say the red arrow on it gives a rough guide to the location of the club field about 3/4 of a mile west of Rhuddlan on the A547, if you do intend to visit us sometime do take care on the road (A 547)outside the field as parking is very restricted at the field access gate and the traffic is usually fast moving along this stretch. There have been some close shaves over the years. We are very lucky with the field and have very few restrictions on it's use and can fly seven days a week weather permitting. Here's a large scale section of an O.S. map again the arrow indicates the gate to our field and the field is coloured yellow to assist. The grid reference for the gate is  SJ 001 776

On this map the field is marked in yellow and the arrow indicates the gate

And here we are on Google Earth, somebody's done a good job mowing the strip !!!

John Barrows' Lancaster AKA The  Flying Workmate

Sunday 25th of April saw the maiden flight of  John Barrow's  Lancaster, it's sound and appearance in the air is truly fantastic and a great credit to John, sadly the landing resulted in some minor damage to the retracts but I'm sure it will not be too long before it's back where it belongs in the air. Well done John, the photo by the way is by John Bowman.
