CAN(N)

This name is fairly common in Devon. I have two interests in it.

Firstly, ELIZABETH CAN (1726/1809) was married in Morchard Bishop, Devon in 1748 to WILLIAM DELVE. There were several CAN families in that parish. There were two baptisms of an ELIZABETH CAN in that parish in 1726 (which year ties in with her death age). One was the daughter of PETER and the other the daughter of RICHARD. I am still trying to determine which was the correct one.

Secondly, HONOUR CANN was married in 1819 at Chulmleigh, Devon to JOHN BURGESS of Witheridge, Devon. Both were described as sojourners.

On her marriage certificate, HONOUR was described as the daughter of STEPHEN CANN, a miller. On her (Australian) death certificate, HONOUR was noted as having been born about 1798 at Bondleigh, Devon. The registers of that parish were lost in a fire several years ago and there is a gap in the Bishops Transcripts so the baptism cannot be traced.

STEPHEN CANN was married in 1792 at Chawleigh, Devon to HONORA PASMORE . He is believed to have been the STEPHEN christened at Chawleigh in 1765, the son of STEPHEN CANN and ELIZABETH REED. I am seeking help in verifying this.

I have many records of this name in various Devon parishes.
