HEAN(E)S)

My interest in this name arises through JOANNA HEANES (1744/1831) who married my BROCK ancestor WILLIAM at Okehampton, Devon in 1768.

The HEAN(E)(S) were a prominent family who featured in Okehampton local history back to the 1600s but because of gaps in the parish registers, one cannot completely trace the line back.

JOANNA was the daughter of ELIZEUS HEANES and ELIZABETH. The unusual first name ELIZEUS was used by the family back through the years.

I have extracted all the available information from the Okehampton sources and traced the various lines to the extent that the gaps in the parish registers permit. One 48 year old widow, PATIENCE HEANES (1798/1860) emigrated in 1846 with six of her children to South Australia.
