My interest in this name arises through CHARLOTTE HOLMES (1798/1846) who was married at Tiverton, Devon in 1815 to my BURGESS ancestor, HENRY BURGESS (1795/1855) of Witheridge, Devon.
CHARLOTTE was baptised at St Peters, Tiverton in 1795. Her parents, JOHN and CATHERINE do not appear to have originated from Tiverton. It is believed, although not yet substantiated, that JOHN was baptised in 1757 at Cruwys Morchard, Devon, the son of ROBERT HOLMES and AGNES WRIGHT who were married at Cruwys Morchard in 1751.
I have only a limited number of references to the HOLMES name in Devon for the relevant period and am seeking help for this name.
