My interest in this name arises through GRACE MORTIMER (1717/1792) of Morchard Bishop, Devon who in 1745 was married in that parish to one of my BROWNSTON ancestors. As a widow, she was married again in 1759 in the same parish to JOHN ROLLESTON.
GRACE was the eldest of fourteen children of JOHN MORTIMER (1694/-----) and MARY VICORY. JOHN was the son of JOHN MORTIMER who married MARY COX at Morchard Bishop in 1684.
I have many early records of references to the name in Devon.
