My interest in this name arises from the marriage in 1799 at Morchard Bishop, Devon of ANNE WHITELEY (1774/1848) to JOHN DREW.
I have traced the WHITELEY family back to ROGER who married ELIZABETH GLIDDON in 1699 at Down St Mary, Devon. The line descends through JOHN (1703/----) and JOHN (1737/----). The family appears to have moved from Down St Mary to Morchard Bishop about 1740.
I have records of the few references to the family in both parishes.
