| In 1998, Corrina was commissioned by Celtic Connections Festival to compose for their New Voices series, recommending Alyth to sing in the resulting 'Making the Connection'. The following year, Alyth and Corrina again worked together in Andy Thorburn's suite for 12 voices, 'Tuath gu Deas'. Mary, who had already performed with Corrina, was one of these voices. At a second performance of 'Tuath gu Deas' at the Bongo Club in Edinburgh, the three girls were asked to open the evening. By the time they had finished their first song, the atmosphere was electric; they realised how natural and enthralling their music was to them and to the audience. Continuation was a certainty. | |

Mary was then asked by Ros Rigby of Fireworks to suggest an interesting and complementary opener for the first British tour of Bulgarian Voice Choir, Angelite. During this time, sound engineer, Mark Whyles, became an integral part of the group's sound. Shine was created. |
