from the hotel window - just across the street. i was particularly interested by all the angles and lines created by the buildings in this shot

it was quite difficult to get this shot for several reasons:

· it was really cold and my hands where prone to a bit of camera shake
· it was night - so the shutter was taking a long time to let enough light in at the level i was after.
· the cabs move very quickly in new york!

it took about 10 attempts to get a cab going slow enough to be pictured. i also had to lean against a wall so that my arms didn't shake in the cold and to allow enough light in. turned out ok though.

just a simple shot of the guggenheim museum. because of the angle i took the picture, i felt the composition was slightly off. so to try and make something a little more balanced i decided to do a little photo manipulation to make the weighting and default 'simplicity' of it's shape slightly more obscure and "equal" - for want of a better word.

taken from the top of the empire state building, using the optical zoom feture on the dsc-f717, thought the detail was pretty impressive, considering the low light conditions and the strong winds you get up their in the evening.

i was particularly drawn to the colours in this particular picture, and the random speckles of action - i suppose it gives the eye something to wander around.
