Pete has been on the local folk scene for many years, he has played with and influenced the likes of Vin Garbutt, and has written a lot of his own songs, (The Critic, Whay Hay the whistle blows to name a few)
nowadays he plays somewhere between Teesside and Amsterdam, he also does a spot of MC'ing for what was Redcar festival (is now Saltburn) or you might see him propping up the bar at the back!! however if you are one of those people who see him pick his guitar up, WATCH OUT, cos you are in for a treat! you have been warned!!

John Conolly and Pete Sumner have played together for many years in
various bands including Rational Anthem and, more recently,
Donkeys Breakfast. This long experience of sharing their music with
each other has developed a relaxed on-stage presence and an
instrumental rapport which guarantees that an evening spent with Conolly
and Sumner will not be wasted.
John plays guitar, squeeze-box and tin whistle, and is an
internationally - known songwriter. His classic Fiddler's Green, and
Punch & Judy Man and many other powerful and evocative songs are
sung all around the world, and have earned him a welcome at many
leading Folk and Maritime Festivals.
Pete supplies much of the instrumental colour within the duo,
with his skilful accompaniments on guitar, mandolin, banjo and cittern.
He learnt his trade as a resident musician in the exotic ambience of the
Bermuda Folk Club where he absorbed a variety of styles and
techniques from many internationally - known performers.
Their extensive repertoire gives them the ability to provide
themed performances and workshops where necessary, and they are
equally at home playing in folk clubs, theatres, festivals, on the deck of a
sailing lugger, or in the chimney-corner of the village pub...

The Keelers

Well established as one of the countrys leading shanty groups, and set up for the Newcastle Tall Ships Race in 1986, they also do a great selection of other songs, particularly from the North East. Latest album is "On the North Sea Ground".

STOP PRESS - The Keelers have just returned from singing at the 'Stront'Festival in Workum in FRIESLAND, Netherlands. The concerts were a sell out and the audiences, which included people from Denmark, Germany and the South of France, were fantastic singing all the English choruses.

We enjoyed the experience so much we decided to formalise our musical relationship and maybe broaden our horizons a little.
They play a variety of northeast tunes, but their repertoire is also influenced by Colin's scottish roots.

Liz Law & Terry Conway

Liz & Terry, are now looking for bookings anywhere in the north east or even further afield, Liz's work permitting! Liz is the dulcimer player with 'Lucky Bags' and has been a solo floor singer & player, at Hartlepool, Hexham, Stockton & now Allendale folk clubs, over many years.
Terry Conway is a very well-regarded singer and songwriter from Northumberland who has given talks on the border ballads, and has even sung on Radio 3! Together, their styles compliment each other, and their material includes humourous songs by Terry, traditional ballads (some quite gory) and north-eastern songs, some being the result of extensive research by Terry. They would love the opportunity to provide an entertaining night at local clubs, having already played Ashington, South Shields and Newcastle.

Liz & Terry have recently made a CD, entitled "Premier" and is £12.00 plus £2.00 p.&p.

Dave Mason

was born in Newcastle but grew up in South Africa.
In 1994 he started to play his own material at Durban folk club, and other clubs & festivals in South Africa, he returned to England last year and has played at clubs around the North East. His style is contemporary rather than traditional, and his new album The Soul of Splashy Fen should be available soon.

Soh Fah

A strange combination of guitar and flute played in an interesting and sophisticated way. These two have a diverse musical background which ranges through classical, folk, jazz, blues, country, punk & rock 'n' roll! 'Boots' Shannon the female half of the duo, sings and plays guitar, various woodwinds, and fiddle to add variety to the music. Roy Piper on bass also plays guitar and contributes sensitive vocals. Summerhill Folly Ceilidh Band

Arising out of the misfortune and trauma of circumstances beyond my control, a new ceilidh band has emerged. Starting as a scratch, five very talented (and modest) young men have got together to form Summerhill Folly. These are:

Terry Docherty & Robin Dunn

While he isn't playing alongside Terry, Robin is busy with a couple of dance bands. The first, La Toque Bleu has recently completed a successful tour with the Rodney Miller Band meanwhile , Terry continues to develop his guitar making business, occasionally venturing forth on the odd solo gig, supporting bands like Rock Salt & Nails, the Iron Horse & the Albion Band

Tony Wilson

Since 1977 he has played with many famous names and bands (Iona, Mick Doonan, Ian Fairbairn) as well as being a solo singer and musician. He has worked on television and radio in the UK as well as the continent, and even played in a Japanese Fish commercial! Tony has played on the soundtracks of two TV documentaries, and worked as a folk presenter on BBC Radio Leeds. He has compered events at many festivals, and does workshops on Tenor banjo, song and storywriting, song accompaniment and guitar tunings. Tony has returned to full time music and is available for solo bookings and with electronic keyboard player and saxophonist Mick Roberts .This year has seen him touring the whole of the country as a storyteller in schools, as well as touring in Ireland and Holland. His first, traditional, solo CD, 'Each Picture Spoken' has been gaining great reviews on both sides of the Atlantic.
He is currently putting together an instrumental CD called "A Banjo full of tunes" and has a live CD, recorded in the folk clubs in South Shields and Maidenhead and the lodge at Granada services, Charnock Orchard.

Peter Wood

Well known as singer of traditional songs, he also does many contemporary songs, plays the concertina, piano if he gets the chance, and is learning the fiddle. He normally takes bookings for the first two activities. Also founder member of the Keelers and was once in the High Level Ranters. A Lancashire man, Peter has produced several folk extravaganzas in his 25 years on Tyneside, including The Tale of Ale, The Transports, and the Cruel Wars.
