Hi Banjo Bill, I am planning to vacation in London the week of March 18 to March 25 and I am surfing the web to find interesting musical things to do in London. That is how I found your page. I play bluegrass banjo and guitar, or let's say I am trying to learn how to play. I coordinate a Slow Jam in the Philadelphia area. There are lots of folk and bluegrass spots in my hometown area. I was hoping to find similar places in London. Yes, I plan to see the usual tourist spots, but would love to drag my bride and joy (wife) out to a folk or bluegrass pub for a pint and a song. Nice website! John McCarty Elkins Park, PA USA

Full of admiration for an entertaining, informative and, for me, therapeutic site. I am a member of the Shropshire Folk Arts Association; having been resident in this area since leaving Cornwall and the RAF in 1973, I have seen many Folk clubs RISE, - AND FALL into obscurity, the few dedicated musicians linger on. I was 60 a fortnight ago, am awaiting quintruple heart bypass surgery, (imminent!), and, like you am in love with the Banjo, I have two much loved mediocre five-strings, along with a variety of other instruments including much loved harmonicas, but at the moment I am on so many pills, for unstable angina, etc., that I am now taking auditions for a human Maraccas with a Mexican Mariachi Band. Enough from me, more power to your "elbow", and "pen", Len, and a big thank you for brightening my day.

Good site, however, I feel there is a distinct lack of new talent covered. Young folk singers are really tired of seeing the same old names flying around. The North East clique has got to stop. Try researching fresh new acts such as 'The Calverts' and the Tyneside based 'Cornerboys', who both have youth and vibrant vocals that certainly challenge the more dated acts that have played the circuit for many years. 'The Calverts' have even been approached by Mr Garbutt, material was not exchanged - 'old acts seeking fresh material-same old story!'. Of all the folk writers, Graeme Miles should feel the most tainted. More 'Folk stars' have been succesful off the back of Miles. He contributed alot, gave alot to North East folk and has never had the recognition...ask Garbutt and Grainger! Banjo Bill, get with it and

I thought some readers may not know the sad news of the death of my friend of 35 years, and godfather of my son: Chris Metcalfe, mandolin player with the Ken Tardly Playboys, and one of the organisers of the Silsden Bluegrass Festival. His cremation took place last Tuesday at Huddersfield crematorium. Only 54 years old, in the words of the White Family " Another soldier down...."

Greetings from Canada. Unfortunately I am not a potential customer but I am doing an Internet search for an old (80 years old) friend of mine who signs and plays both guitar and banjo. He travels around to old folks homes to entertain the people (Jack does not think of himself as old). He has recently found a Banjo which he says is a John Grey (Headmaster 4 string manufactured around 1965) and he has asked me to try to find out more about it and his major concern is he doesn't want to take advantage of the lady who is trying to sell it. Jack is a very principled man. Any information or URL would be greatly appreciated.

I'm an avid guitarist, and i love the sound of the bajo. I'd like to find some site to help me learn to play and get the rough folk sound that apeals to me so much. Thanks

Hi there, I am looking for some advice. How do you go about finding musicians?!? There is a woman who lives near Carlisle with the most wonderful voice and with the backing of some good musicians, she could go far. I am puzzled as to where to find them though. I hope you can help me or suggest some avenues to try. We want to use her in a series which we will be making next year, and so I need to get moving quickly. I think that your website is brilliant by the way. Many thanks, and I hope you can help me!! Laura. Ps have you heard the band called 'Tarras'? They are totally brilliant, based in Alston and about to be massive.

Just came across your web page. Thought it was interesting. I run two bluegrass bands WET PAINT & THE DRIPS and BUFFALO. I also started BRITISH BLUEGRASS NEWS and BANJO GAZETTE. I'm just getting my web site together. Good stuff.

thanks for the jokes, they really made me laugh in the office, but I'm not dare to tell anyone because nobody plays banjo here (except me). Well and nobody's looking for a band to play in (except me). So I really feel like being moustach on the Mona Lisa. Adrienne

Nice to see that the Cleveland Area folk scene is still flourishing. I have been domiciled in far away lands for quite a few years but I still seem to see the same old names. Which is comforting. Hope to see you all round and about soon Best Regards to anybody who remembers me JoE De Brincat

enjoyed the site. Being computer illiterate I sometimes put messages in the wrong place so blame me if this is the section for Folk Clubs. Bernie, the other half of the infamous Keltix (not the irish Harpers who we have never seen but from reviews sound immeasurably talented) and I are always looking for bookings further afield (and spelling lessons). Keep up the good work Len.
