You seem to still have a busy folk scene in the North East. The lists of venues and performers is great, but the joke is awful ( I am a banjo player of sorts). We are Wales' oldest club and foundering at present after 32 years. Any ideas on raising funds/improving publicity and regeneration would be welcome !

Dear Len, Could you include myself and Fiona Harley in future news etc. Having started on the folk scene a mere two months ago,we have been getting around a bit of late ie Stockton, Osmotherley, Darlington, Guisborough and Cecil Sharp House (the most bloody awful singaround). God knows where she's dragging me off to tonight, somewhere in county Durham. Like you, I moved in from the rock scene having been vocalist, rhythm guitarist and songwriter for Teesside based band, SKULDUGGERY. At the age of 44, I feel a little too old to be dragging heavy amps up three flights of stairs to play to the bar staff and a dog because the venue hasn't bothered to put the posters up. Much happier on the folk scene where one acoustic guitar is all I have to worry about - oh, plus my partner of course but as we'll be m

I thought it worth to mention the brand new release of RICHARD GRAINGER's new CD :' TOWN IN TIME', a collection of songs about MIDDLESBROUGH, with all the 'classics' plus new created for the occasion by Richard. It is released just on time for the Captain Cook Festival which start on this Friday at Whitby and will extend this year to Middlesbrough. I'm not a specialist critic (although us French are well known to always complain), so I'll just say that I adore this CD and I think it to be a 'must-have'. "Stongly recommended"! as they say.

I have met with a lot of success, persuading them to wave the flag of St.George and join in the refrain of my self-penned composition,"Proud to be English". Next year I hope to make a crusade around the various festivals, and was wondering whether there was a chance that any of your Festivals had an opening for a bit of harmless fun and patriotic fervour?
