amateur painters painting pictures right from the start. The
well-known teacher-artist helps students to learn techniques by

and develop their own style; and the third shows how to paint
the many different elements of the landscape. The course

Rex Preston's Peak District and Pennines
Reviews
Synopsis
Rex Preston is one of the country's leading landscape artists,
with a national and international reputation. He has lived in
Derbyshire for most of his life and his home area of the Peak
District and Southern Pennines exerts a huge influence on his
exquisite paintings, even though he travels the entire country
searching for subjects. Working principally in oil, but not
neglecting watercolour and other media, he began painting
professionally in 1969. He loves to walk with his sketchbook in
the more remote wild areas, away from the obvious beauty spots
although he does venture occasionally into the more well-known
valleys. Wherever possible he takes his paints with him as he
finds there is no better way to capture light and atmosphere
than to paint on location. This sumptuously illustrated book
contains over 130 works created over the last fifteen years.
They are without exception ravishing pictures, demonstrating his
skill at portraying the diversity of the beautiful Peak and
Pennines in all seasons. The book also contains a wide-ranging
interview with Rex Preston who casts a fascinating light on his
upbringing and development as an artist and on the creative
process that results in timeless works of true inspiration. As
his fellow artist Robin Gibbard says "His paintings will live
forever".

Capturing the Moment (Paint Watercolour)
Reviews
Synopsis
Experienced watercolourist and countryman Wilfred Ball conveys
his own approach to painting watercolours - techniques and
methods which can be applied by any painter. The author groups
his work under aspects which create and reflect nature's beauty
- light in its many forms, skies, water, frost, the seasons - to
demonstrate how best to convey their magic and overcome
difficulties. His straightforward instruction is combined with
120 of his watercolours to provide advice and support to
painters seeking to capture the elusive beauty of nature.
