Abstract of Christopher Cloke's presentation

"PROTECTING BABIES - THE NSPCC EXPERIENCE"

As part of its FULL STOP campaign, the NSPCC is committed to supporting parents and protecting babies and children. Since the launch of the FULL STOP campaign in 1999, the NSPCC has run public awareness initiatives to support parents. We recognise that babies are particularly vulnerable to child abuse and that an individual is more likely to be killed in his first year of life than at any other time. We also appreciate that babies crying is a major stress factor that can lead parents to harm their children.

In this presentation I shall describe the NSPCC's awareness raising activities, including the advertising that was run on national television and on poster sites across the country. I will share the findings of our evaluation and identify further ways of promoting public education in this important area.
