Tuesday April 18th 2000

9.30 am Chairman's welcome from Luke Zander, Forum founder and Secretary.

Introductory remarks: Baroness Julia Cumberlege.

9. 45am Presentation on leadership, creativity and accomplishment: Benjamin Zander.
He endeavours to establish the spirit for the meeting in this session. He draws on musical examples, including some audience participation, in order to get an audience to think, feel and act differently about problem solving..


12.00pm Interactive session: Defining the transformational model. Developing a vision for the conference.

2.00 pm Developing projects for each of the four themes:

The staffing crisis in obstetrics and midwifery.
The pregnancy record and information systems.
Social inequalities and maternity care.
Achieving appropriate and effective care for normal birth.

3.15 pm Plenary: Rosamund Zander and Benjamin Zander.
Define and refine projects - what are the stumbling blocks?

Wednesday 19th April

9.30 am Plenary session: Work on projects.

11.15 am Ben Zander -- Musical master class with a string quartet: What is effective leadership?

12.00 pm Discussion of coaching principles. Questions for musicians.

1.45 pm Working group activity: Concluding the projects.

3.45 pm Plenary Session with Roz and Ben Zander: Taking the projects into the future.

4.30 pm Closing remarks.
