Madrid
is the capital of Spain and
is located in the centre of the country on a plateau over 2000ft high
(660m).
Madrid has about 3.5 million inhabitants. These photos taken in autumn 1999 show
part of a square near the city centre, it is called Plaza de Espana.
Madrid has several parks including the Retiro, Parque del Oeste, and
Casa de Campo. It has also many historic buildings including a Palace,
named the Palacio Real although the Royal Family do not live there any
more. Other attractions of Madrid which you can see pictures of here
include El Rastro market and the Zoo.
