Palacio Real This massive royal palace, built in the 1700's, is no longer inhabited by the Spanish royal family. It is used for state occasions and at other times is open to the public. The palace has about 3000 rooms many extravagantly decorated. Around the palace are parks and gardens in an Italian style. This photo taken in 1999 shows part of the royal palace.
