Sherry is named after the town of Jerez. British merchants started the modern sherry trade here, although the grape vine was introduced here about 3000 years ago by the Phoenicians. The places where sherry is made are called bodegas. Visitors are welcomed and can learn all about the sherry making process. The various types of sherry such as Fino (dry sherry), Manzanilla (from Sanlucar, photo above), Amontillado, Oloroso, and sweet sherry can be sampled.
