Tarragona is a city on the coast of Catalonia south of Barcelona.
It is an industrial port and also has an amazing amount of Roman ruins and a large 12th century cathedral with gardens and cloisters which was built
on the site of a Roman temple and an Arab mosque. In spite of the fact that the city contains all these ancient sites, it does not seem to have been particularly developed for tourism.
The Roman sites include an amphitheatre with the ruins of a church inside it, and in the centre of Tarragona the remains of a Roman town wall,
a Roman road, and several Roman buildings. There are also two archaeological museums in the city and a museum in the cathedral with lots of
religious relics (information correct 1999). There is a Roman aqueduct dating from the 2nd century outside of the city.
