Broadband for St Margaret's

Welcome to the home page of Broadband for St Margaret's.

January 14, 2004 ... STOP PRESS ....

BT have announced a Ready for Service date of March 31, 2004 for the St Margaret's Bay exchange. This is fantastic news in bringing Broadband to St Margaret's and the surrounding villages. If your phone number starts 01304 85xxxx then you may be able to access broadband from April.

Thanks to Kent County Council for their partnership with BT in enabling the exchange early and ensuring that our local community is not left behind, despite the fact that St Margaret's  has not met our registration target.

What's Next? How do I get Broadband?

You need to choose a supplier (Information Service Provider - ISP) and place your order. Your existing provider will probably offer an upgrade or to see a wider range of ISPs and to compare them click here for an independent view. Note the costs here are total costs for a whole year - If you are moving from ISDN you will be saving money!!

You will need a new broadband modem to connect your computer, many ISPs include this in their package. You will also need one splitter or micro filter per normal telephone to allow you to use the voice telephone line at the same time. Again, many packages include two of these as standard.

Once you have placed your order, then sit back and wait for April 1 and your high speed internet connection.

Broadband is a utility like gas, water or electricity. It is a service, a tool, an enabler.

It means the children in our schools and libraries can access information quickly. Our children should not loose concentration and enthusiasm waiting for data to drip down the telephone line in bits and bytes? With Broadband (ADSL) the information flows in real-time inspiring creativity and learning. Our residents, especially those with restricted mobility can have better access to home banking, home shopping and the outside world.

Our commuters will have the option to work efficiently from home and so lessen road congestion and potential for accidents? They will be able to see their children in daylight hours during the week? Our retired folk can communicate with their family over the miles with fast live TV links and laugh, cry and chat with their grandchildren?  Even our Doctor could share information immediately with hospitals and other surgeries.
