Within these
pages it is hoped to re-unite many of the unit's members, with that in
mind, we had hoped to hold a reunion in April 2001. However, due
to lack of interest this never happened.Peter Tallentire is the force leading to the creation of this site,
which is residing within the confines of my own site for ex- 87th Entry
Apprentices. I am Barry Dinnage, (Ground Radar Fitter) and I joined the
unit from RAF Henlow, along with a few other Radar fitters around 1961.
After a short course at RAF Newton, we were posted to RAF
Wilmslow, Cheshire, a base camp for our 12 months or so at Ferranti's
factory at Wythenshawe, near Manchester. As with many other RAF camps,
Wilmslow no longer exists.
After the intensive training at Wythenshawe, we were posted to RAF
North Coates, in Lincolnshire, where we joined many other trades in the
trials of the Bloodhound MkII missile system.
Here is the list of known members of 17 JSTU, some of
whom have been
contacted, others remain to be traced.
Also take a look in the Gallery where we
hope to add a glittering array of photo's of us in our younger days.
