During the three years at RAF Locking there was an opportunity
to join the Apprentice Pipe and Trumpet Band. This was a voluntary band, and any
other duties and study had to fit in around this.
There was in addition to parades, outside events to perform at,
this gave one the chance to sometimes get off camp during the week when we were
all normally confined to camp. The highlight of the year was to perform at
'The
Royal Tournament', Earls Court, sadly now discontinued. This meant the chance to get into London
and have a drinking spree without the chance of being caught.
