| Beacon Hill Rovers Football Club Opens the Door to the Ladies
Fed up with watching their men folk on a Saturday play football,
and then endure three hours of dissecting the game and further football chat in the bar after the final whistle.
The ladies of Beacon Hill Rovers Football Club have had enough, and from the start of next season the ladies will
be donning boots and kit of their own as they compete in the Essex Ladies Football League. The league is in its
second season and will have a total of twelve teams for the coming season, four of which have competed before and
eight new teams. Therefore with the league still in it’s infancy all involved should feel a sense of satisfaction
at being part, at such an early stage, of a fast growing sport for women.
They will play under the name of Beacon Hill Rovers Ladies and will form an integral part of the Essex club
which was formed in 1921, by ex servicemen, and currently boasts three senior men sides and two youth teams.
The Ladies have the Club’s full backing and have even enticed a long standing member of the First Team to
coach them through the summer in preparation for the start of the league program in October. The Ladies team
have also obtained sponsorship from local businessman Mr Ron Miller, whose company Victoria House Printing
Company will be emblazoned across the kits shirts.
The organisers of Beacon Hill Rovers Ladies, Jo Hennessey and Trish Taylor, are now actively seeking new
club members and would like to hear from anyone interested in playing. No previous experience is required just
enthusiasm and the commitment to play.
Pre season training commences on Tuesday 11th July with the first league game at the beginning
of October. Home games and summer training will be held at the club’s headquarters of Snow’s Corner in Wickham
Bishops, which has been ‘Home’ for over fifty years.
We are trying to build a solid foundation within an already established Football Club, for all women to come
and enjoy the game of football, and hope to be able to open our facilities up in the future to also incorporate
youth teams for girls.
