Track Night

For the grand sum of £10, I was lucky enough to have a 2 hour ladies track session at Knockhill in May 2000. Only 7 of us took part. I had previously done the beginner's race school at Knockhill, riding Honda Hornets (now CBR600's). As this was the first track event I had done on my bike, at first I was fairly careful. However, it didn't take long before I had gained the confidence to really push myself. Although I knew the bike could handle, I was still impressed by how far the bike could lean. |

Sadly, as I was concentrating so hard on just getting round the circuit as quickly as possible (and in one piece), it didn't even cross my mind to try getting my knee down! Never mind, it's something to try next time! As for lap times, they weren't anything too startling. My best times were apparently in the 1 min 13 sec region, but I felt that wasn't too bad really. By the end of the session, I was pretty much the fastest on the track (and so I should have been, some would say, given my bike). |

There were a variety of bikes participating that night, including KR1S, ZXR400, CBR600, ER-7. Most of us were track virgins, but I think that everyone enjoyed the night and found it of some value. I was surprised at the number of men who turned up on spec to try to get time out on the track despite it being for ladies only. It was heartening that Knockhill did not bow to pressure and stood by the fact it was a ladies night. |
