GUEST APPEARANCES
Given The Beach Boys' prodigous output in the sixties, it's amazing that they found time to draw breath, much less guest on anyone else's songs... but as this list amply attests, they did so, in varying combinations, and not invariably in a vocal capacity. As time progressed, their guest appearences became fewer, but, and it's a strange thing, sometimes these later cameos were better that any band work of the period, e.g. "Wishing You Were Here" & "Adios". All contributions are vocal unless noted * [instrumental] or + [vocal and instrumental]. Single sides in italics feature no BB involvement and are included for reference only. Release dates, labels and catalog numbers are those of the country where the song in question was first released - largely, but not invariably, the USA. The term 'guest appearence' covers a multitude of sins, from the band's very obvious presence on "The Monkey's Uncle" to Brian's all but inaudible contribution to the California Music 45. Not included in this list are guest appearences by the band on each other's solo or side projects, hence the absence of Pacific Ocean Blue, any Celebration songs and the Rumbo 45 (which reputedly features Carl & Brian on bvs): well, almost - Brian's presence on Mike's 1981 solo album is listed here because it's otherwise unadvertised.  Three further observations: this list is without doubt incomplete... some of these cameos were uncredited at the time of release... and some of the alleged guest appearences are disputed by some commentators and historians, and even the participants themselves ! Notably, there is considerable dissention as to exactly which Jan & Dean songs Brian guested on: the information included below comes from Jan & Dean historian Mark A. Moore, taken from his forthcoming book coveing the sessions of Jan & Dean. Additions, comments and corrections to the usual (email) address, please.

Notes
1
On this album, The Beach Boys comprised Brian, Carl, Dennis, Mike & David Marks.
2
On this album, The Beach Boys comprised Brian, Carl, Dennis, Mike & Alan. The version of  "Dead
Man's Curve" noted on the Jan & Dean album is not the later hit single version.
3
This was long thought to be the only confirmed released example of Brian & Phil Spector collaborating.
Brian played piano  at a Spector session for "Don't Hurt My Little Sister", the track later being used for
this release, and also for the versions released by Jay & The Americans, and the Supremes - allegedly.
However, Jerry Riopelle maintains that, while Phil did cut a basic track with Brian on piano, the version
on this record is something he produced. If this is true (and it must be admitted that some of Riopelle's
other recollections are questionable), then not only does Brian not appear on this record, but it's not a
Spector production either. It's rumored that Brian also played piano "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town"
on Phil's album A Christmas Gift For You, but it  remains unclear wether the take he played on was
the one released.
4
You thought wrong -  Carl played Moog, not guitar. :-)
5
On this album, The Beach Boys comprised Brian, Carl, Dennis, Mike, Alan & Bruce Johnston. Their
participation in the track - Brian excluded - was involuntary, as Brian reused an existing Beach Boys
recording.
6
This album version of the song is slightly different to the 45 version.
7
This album version is almost a minute longer than the single, and contains more vocals from Carl & Mike.
8
There's currently some debate as to wether Brian actually appears on the released version of either of these
two titles: while there's no question that he did sing on a session for these songs, both Carmen and Bruce
Johnston contend that his contribution was well below par, and that the bvs were subsequently
re-recorded. However, the late Curt Becher, who was also present, maintained that Brian was mixed way
down on the released versions. Go figure...
9
The A side is the same recording, minus the BB backing vocals.
10
Although uncredited, Brian definitely plays on this track.
11
On this album, The Beach Boys comprised Brian, Carl, Mike, Alan & Bruce.
12
First release of a track recorded at the same time as the 2/63 Four Speeds 45.
13
On this album, The Beach Boys comprised Carl, Mike, Alan & Bruce.
14
On this album, The Beach Boys comprised Brian, Mike & Alan.
15
Originally released in Japan and reissued as a remix - Go Man Go - in 2000. The US version of the
original album has four bonus tracks, none featuring Carl.
16
Originally recorded late 60s, written & produced by Murry Wilson.
17
On this album, The Beach Boys as credited sound awfully like Alan multitracked.
18
On this album, The Beach Boys comprised Brian, Carl, Mike, Alan & Bruce.
19
A lyrical revision of "Surfin' USA".
20
This is a different version to that on Like A Brother.
21
A various artists charity single in aid of the 2004 Tsunami disaster. Contrary to early reports, The
Beach Boys do not appear on the song.
22
A reworded version of "Wipe Out" performed for a private BB show at the FBI HQ in Washington DC,
1988. On this album, The Beach Boys comprised Carl, Mike, Alan & Bruce.
23
A track from the unreleased 1981 album TV Land. This is a rarities compilation and not a later hits
collection with the same title.
24
Brian contributes either organ or backing vocals to most tracks on this poetry album, originally recorded
late summer 1969.
