The school provides a learning environment
where the individual can be catered for in small class
groups (average 16 pupils, maximum 20), and self reliance
can be developed. The ratio of pupils to academic staff
is approximately 11:1.
Reception
Pupils work towards the 'Early Learning Goals' with
a concentration on letter recognition, phonic sounds,
handwriting, and developing reading skills, also number
skills, shape and pattern. A basis for History, Geography,
Science, Art and R.E. is provided for Year 1 work.
Key Stage 1 and 2
Years 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and
6 (5-11 years of age)
Concentration on Reading and Writing skills and Mathematics.
Other subjects include History, Geography, Science,
Drama, Art, I.T. and French from Year 4. S.A.T.S. tests
are taken in English, Maths and Science at ages 7 and
11.
Key Stage 3
Years 7, 8, and 9 (11-14
years of age)
National Curriculum in 7 subjects: English, Maths, Science,
Geography, History, Art, French plus I.T. (Windows Database
and word processing, spreadsheets, etc.). From Year
8, GCSE, Dance, Expressive Arts and Drama. SATS test
in English, Maths and Science and Entry Level certificate
in French taken in Year 9 provide indicators as to which
level pupils will be entered at GCSE.
Key Stage 4
Years 10 and 11 (14-16 years
of age)
G.C.S.E. in the following subjects: Drama and Expressive
Art taken in year 10;
the following in Year 11: English, English literature,
Mathematics, Human Biology, French, Travel & Tourism
and Dance. We are registered as an examination centre
with A.Q.A., EDEXCEL, & O.C.R. examining boards.
After leaving
A Careers Advisor visits the school regularly and gives
advice to children on their career choice. Pupils can
either enter the profession directly (being represented
by our Agency), or follow vocational training/A Levels
at college or combine the two.
