Our home is situated in Port Charlotte, South West Florida - which is on the Gulf Coast beside the Peace River just 30 miles north of Fort Myers International Airport.

A stay here enables you to experience a real Floridian neighbourhood, an idyllic setting just 10 minutes drive from Port Charlotte beach with its sport and leisure facilities and 5 minutes drive from the local shops and restaurants. Our 1/3-acre plot backs on to beautiful Presque Isle Lake. Imagine enjoying a barbecue while watching the sun set over the lake at the bottom of the garden? If you like seafood then you are in for a treat. Every morning the shrimp boats return to the local quay after a night's fishing and sell giant shrimp straight off the boats!

The beautiful gardens are set to lawn with a wide variety of tropical and fruit trees including orange, tangerine, key lime and how about a sweet juicy red grapefruit straight off the tree for breakfast?

And speaking of breakfast - here's a couple of characters who regularly drop around our garden for theirs!

Florida Climate

As you will see the chart below shows daily average high temperatures. The climate in South West Florida starts from very warm in winter to Very Hot in summer. Your ideal wardrobe should be light and informal. The chart below is intended as a guide only. The sun in Florida is very fierce, please use adequate protection to avoid spoiling your holiday. Florida's climate is tropical therefore thunderstorms lasting an hour or so are common during summer months.

Travelling to Port Charlotte

Fort Myers Airport is only 40 minutes drive away or if you prefer a direct flight from London Gatwick to Tampa Bay you are 1˝ hours away. Both airports are virtually on the I75 motorway and our house is only 1 mile off it, couldn't be easier! Flight and car hire information available upon request.

Driving in Florida

Some useful driving hints…

• Remember to drive on the right hand side of the road (don't laugh, it does happen!).
• Always carry your driving license and rental agreement form with you.
• As in the UK you must wear your seatbelt at all times.
• The speed limits are generally lower than in the UK and are indicated on a square white sign with black numbers. The interstates (motorways) are 70mph unless otherwise indicated.
• In the rain you must have your headlights and wipers on.
• You may turn right on a red traffic light after coming to a stop unless traffic signs indicate otherwise.
• In the unlikely event of an accident you must report it to the police immediately. You will find the car Hire Company requires this as well. If you are involved in an accident please make sure you read your car hire contract carefully and make sure you cover all formalities.
• On motorways you may come across tollbooths, so it is a good idea to keep at least $5 in loose change with you.
• If you do happen to be pulled over by the police stay in the car until the nice police officer comes to you!
