Lands End to John O’Groats Cycle Ride

DAY 12  - Wednesday  20 September

Inveranan to Spean Bridge

THE DAYS REPORT

6.00 pm Fort William and accessible by Cellnet.

Bill reported in this evening that the team had enjoyed their easiest day to date. They had arrived at Fort William at about 4.00 pm and spent a couple of hours sightseeing. 10 more miles would find them in Spean Bridge for the night.

Windswept on Rannoch Moor

Their day had started cold and rainy with strong blustery winds making riding difficult at times. They climbed the 1100 feet on to Rannock Moor before descending into Glen Coe and stopping at a mountain climbers bar for their lunch. This run had been a lot easier then expected despite the cross winds and driving rain.

Road through Glen Coe           Waterfall in Glen Coe

The remainder of their run from Glen Coe was easy traveling through Ballachulish and by the side of Loch Linnhe into Fort William.

The total run for the day would be 66 miles.

As the weather improved in the afternoon to give a rich cocktail of sunshine and driving rain they were able to appreciate the stunning scenery .

This week feels a little easier than the first as they have become fitted and more attuned to their task.

The one exception to their comfortable well being is their saddles. The saddles are definitely not their best friends.... If only someone could design a comfortable saddle.... where have I heard that before...?

Fort William

They plan leaving their departure from Fort William as long as possible as they have heard the high winds have brought down power lines and the community is 'blacked out'. Being optimists they are banking on the pubs having 'hand drawn' beer pumps for their nightcap!

PS The trio subsequently reported that their evening stay at Spean Bridge was fantastic. They stayed at Mr. Reid's B & B Druim Fada. It was like home from home! The service was excellent and the selection for breakfast  was wonderful and overall they were well looked after.

The 3 say thanks for a fantastic stay to Mr. Reid! Brilliant!
