DAY 13  - Thursday  21 September

Outside Druim Fada B & B Spean Bridge

    Leaving Spean Bridge just before 9.00 am the team rode the short way to the Commando Memorial where they stopped and took a number of photographs with Ben Nevis as a backdrop.

    Cycling on they had a lovely run up the Great Glen along the shores of Lochs Lochy, Oich and Loch Ness. The weather being cool, dry and sunny was excellent for cycling at the same time affording spectacular views of this wonderful part of Scotland.

    They stopped for their packed lunch on the banks of Loch Ness with cameras poised but to no avail.

    At Drumnadrochit the trio left the main road to bypass Inverness taking the A831 to Milton and then turning right on to the A833 heading for Beauly.

    From Beauly it was an enjoyable cruise through Muir of Ord into Dingwall where they booked into the National Hotel having covered 62 miles on the day.

    Sitting down to a comfortable meal at the Mallard  Inn near the station and drinking a pint of Eighty Shillings ale Bill completed his day report to me.

    (Ale in this part of Scotland seems a bit expensive to me! Ed)

    Tomorrow they travel to Helmsdale where they have had great trouble locating a B & B with vacancies. Apparently there is to be a local wedding and all the accommodation has been booked for miles around.

    The team are now seeing the end of their journey in sight with 2 more days and 110 miles to cover and are also looking forward to what promises to be a lively night in Helmsdale.
