Lands End to John O’Groats Cycle Ride
DAY 3 Monday 11th September
South Molton to Compton Martin
THE DAYS REPOR
TThe main feature for our hero's today was meeting up with Chris's brother-in-law Roger Crabtree in Bishops Lydeard for lunch and a break in his garden.
The day started when they set off from their B &B located at Sandyway between North Molton and Withypool.
Because their journey commenced at an altitude of 450m asl (above sea level) painfully paid for at the end of yesterdays slog they had a swift and exhilarating descent into Withypool at about 100m asl.
However as always there was a price to pay in terms of a steep climb into Bishops Lydeard for their lunchtime engagement with Roger.

After lunch there was a brut of a hill at Cotherstone followed by a string of climbs to traverse the Quantock Hills. From there they enjoyed a lovely descent into Bridgwater followed by a relaxing long level stretch where they made easy progress after the rigors of yesterday, cruising into Cheddar about 6.30 after completing 65 miles in the day.

The team are now getting into their stride and feeling more comfortable after an easier day not at all missing the last hour and a half in total darkness in very narrow lanes with high embankments/hedges at the end of their previous day.
They have now exceeded the furthest distance 2 of the team members have experienced in three consecutive days and are raring to continue.
Congratulations to Roger. He traveled with the team from Bishops Lydeard to Cheddar a distance of 36 miles to ensure they did not get lost. ( Or to ensure they were off his patch? Ed.)

The threesome all are well this evening and enjoying a meal at The Gardeners Arms, Cheddar out of doors on a lovely barmy evening. Not another pint of Doom Ales?!
