DAY 5  - Wednesday  13 September

Tintern Parva to Much Wenlock

 

THE DAYS REPORT

        An early report today. The lads have not finished their journey yet -  6.30, but they have had an excellent day.

The weather has been superb for cycling. Warm, slightly overcast and dry - ideal.

They left Tintern Parva this morning feeling a little stiff and sore but this soon wore off and  the trio have now made such excellent progress they  are on track to make up the miles lost yesterday. They are heading for Much  Wenlock near  Telford and should complete a total of 81 miles today.

            The day was not without incident. A bracket on the derailier system on Chris's cycle broke in Ross-on-Wye. Having tried a number of local cycle shops  they  eventually  located a shop in Ludlow with the spares they needed but the shop closed at 5.30. 

Fortunately Ludlow was on route avoiding a time consuming detour . After a difficult journey for Chris with much jumping on and off his bike to change gears when hills were encountered they arrived at Ludlow at 5.15. The crew at the Ludlow shop pulled the stops out and repairs were completed in 10 minutes.

    The trio were singing the praises of Peter and Dave at 'Climb on Bikes', 22 The Bull Ring, Ludlow for the excellent job they did.

          For those that know Chris you will not be surprised hear that Chris is getting forgetful and can't remember where he put things 5 minutes ago. ( this sounds familiar! Ed.) 

They called for coffee and buns this morning, Chris locking the bikes together. On return Chris could not remember where he had secured his keys. With no more ado he 'obtained' a pair of bolt cutters and passersby watched without a murmur as 3 desperadoes made off with three very expensive bikes! ( How did he remember where the bolt cutters were packed?

    Not that he is on his own. Bill left his wrap-round sunglasses at a stop and is now traveling round in some 'rose tinted' spectacles!

        After all the miles they are looking forward to eating at The Wheatland Fox Inn in Much Wedlock this evening.
