Wirrel to Kirby Lonsdale
The day started with a change in the plan to avoid the hills around Slaidburn.
Setting off just before 9.00 am Margaret and Rachel, Chris's wife and daughter, accompanied the cyclists to the ferry at Secombe. For this leg of the journey Chris and Rachel used their trailer bike.
( Bill and Phil are now wondering if this move disqualifies Chris as Rachel definitely provided substantial 'power assistance' on this stretch!)
From Liverpool the team made their way to Rufford where they met up with Mike one of Chris's team from BT who guided the trio to the outskirts of Preston where Pete, another of Chris's team, and his wife Lynn navigated them though the intricacies of Preston to connect with the A6 to the north of the town.

From there they bypassed Garstang turning right down Gubberford Lane, where I lived for the first 20 years of my life, on to Scorton stopping at a cyclists cafe for lunch.

From Scorton they followed the A6 to Lancaster and took the A683 via Tunstall arriving at Kirby Lonsdale at 5.45 after traveling a total of 77 miles on the day.
The weather had been kind to them, dry - a bit cooler than last week but nevertheless an excellent cycling day.
Bill's change to puncture resistant tyres had paid off. Phil unfortunately picked up another after passing through the remains of hawthorn hedge cutting.
The current score in terms of punctures is - Bill 3; Phil 3; Chris none. Methinks Chris is using solid tyres!
This evening they are staying at the Whoophall Hotel at Kirby Lonsdale. Geraldine and Rachel, Bill's wife and daughter, were also staying over and will be joining the team for lunch tomorrow.
