Hafodunos Hall ruins, February 2005
Broadcast Thursday 10th February 2005 at 11.00pm
As many as 40 historic buildings in Wales could be at risk of vandalism, arson or damage from the weather unless given urgent protection. The prediction came after two men were sentenced to three years behind bars for an £8m arson attack on Grade I-listed Hafodunos Hall, near Abergele. Conservationists say the blaze is a warning that a vital part of Wales’s cultural heritage is at risk. WALES THIS WEEK traced the background to the fire and heard from the mansion’s owner and the local authority about the likelihood of it ever being fully restored.
