Cataract
Care

A cataract is a clouding of part of your eye called the lens. Your vision becomes blurred or dim because light cannot pass through the clouded lens to the back of the eye.
Cataract can form at any age, but most often develop as people get older. In younger people they can result from –
§ An injury
§ Certain drugs
§ Long standing inflammation
§ Illnesses such as diabetes
The most effective treatment for cataracts is a small operation to remove the cloudy lens, and have it replaced with a plastic lens so that the eye can focus properly.
Cataract is treated usually as a day case with local anaesthetic.
A day-care clinic is available at Cannock Hospital using the latest phakoemulsification surgery.
Patients will be referred from Chase Eyecare directly to
this clinic in the event of cataract requiring surgery.
On no account should patients approach the clinic themselves.
